Overview

Managing multiple investment portfolios was complex, fragmented, and time-consuming. Our goal was to create a unified, intuitive platform that simplifies portfolio management and provides real-time visibility for fund managers and analysts.

My role

  • Lead UX Designer

  • Responsible for Research, User Flows, Interaction Design, Visual Design

  • Team: 1 Business Analyst, 2 Designers

The challenge

Fund managers juggled multiple tools to track portfolios, leading to:

  • Disconnected investment data

  • High reliance on offline tools like Excel

  • Poor visibility into real-time portfolio performance

We needed to design a single source of truth for managing and monitoring portfolios.

Understanding the users

Primary Users:

Approach:

  • Users needed customisable portfolio views

  • Support portfolio customisation and drill-downs

  • Improve task efficiency for daily operations

Design process

Following were the key steps that we took for implementation

1. User Flows & Information Architecture

Mapped ideal user flows focusing on:

  • Quick portfolio overview

  • Deep-dive into individual portfolios

  • Risk assessment shortcuts

2. Low-Fidelity Wireframes

Explored layout options prioritising:

  • Data clarity

  • Minimal cognitive load

  • Responsive design principles

3. High-Fidelity Designs

  • Clean, data-first UI with enterprise-grade consistency

  • Customisable portfolio widgets

  • Intuitive filtering and drill-down capabilities

4. Interactive Prototyping

  • Built Figma prototypes for stakeholder alignment

  • Conducted 2 feedback sessions leading to layout refinements

Outcome (Phase - 1)

  • Unified dashboard with real-time portfolio summaries, reduced process time upto 50%

  • Custom views and filters for fund managers

  • Simplified risk visualisation far better decisioning

  • Positive feedback from 3 pilot fund managers

  • Stakeholders approved full rollout for phase-1

Next steps (Phase - 2)

  • MVP testing of the developed phase - 1 release

  • User flow mapping for complex flows
